A sustainable strategy that has minimised the environmental impact of a tropical rainforest is called the Debt reduction programme. Many tropical rainforests are located near listed investment company and many of the companies are heavily in debt and often use natural resources from the rainforest as a way of making money to pay off loans. However, there have been many instances when wealthier countries have agreed to write off the debt to protect the tropical rainforest. An example of this was in 2010 when the USA and Brazil signed an agreement converting 21 million of debt into the fund to protect tropical rainforests.
